On July 13, Nantong Gangzha Ship Co., Ltd. unveiled the "Xinhai Crocodile," the largest domestically built dredger constructed by the Shanghai Waterway Bureau. Designed by China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) in 1987, this state-of-the-art vessel measures 97.8 meters in length, 17.2 meters in width, and has a depth of 5.0 meters. With a full load draft of 3.67 meters, it can dredge up to 3,500 cubic meters per hour and operate at a maximum depth of 25 meters.
This massive non-self-propelled cutter suction dredger is a single-deck, steel square-type unit, making it the largest of its kind designed and built in China. Its advanced design allows it to efficiently handle silt, clay, and moderately hard soil. The ship is expected to be delivered by the end of September, marking a significant milestone in China's dredging industry.
With a total length exceeding 6,000 meters, the "Xinhai Crocodile" represents a major leap forward in domestic engineering capabilities. It will play a crucial role in various infrastructure and port development projects across the country. This project highlights the growing expertise of Chinese shipbuilders in constructing large-scale, specialized vessels tailored for demanding marine environments.
