"This is the most transparent and highest-quality high-pressure polyethylene product I've ever seen," said an expert from Basel, a high-pressure technology company associated with Maoming Ethylene's No. 2 plant. The newly developed 243H film has achieved remarkable transparency, marking a significant breakthrough for the Maoming one-million-ton ethylene plant. This milestone not only highlights the plant’s technological advancement but also positions it as a leader in domestic production capacity. As of yesterday’s release, the plant is now producing 33 tons per hour of 243H film, demonstrating its growing efficiency and capability.
High-pressure polyethylene is widely used in premium packaging films, where transparency plays a crucial role in determining product quality. The higher the transparency, the more desirable the material becomes in the market. In recent years, China’s major ethylene plants have relied on imported technologies, particularly from Basel, leading to highly competitive markets with similar products. However, since the successful commissioning of Maoming Ethylene’s No. 2 high-pressure unit last March, the company has focused on enhancing product value by developing new materials and exploring new profit centers.
In response to rising demand for ultra-transparent films, Maoming has prioritized the development of 243H. Starting from January 15th, they initiated parameter adjustments and trial production, incorporating this grade into the upcoming assessment by foreign experts. After extensive research and fine-tuning, the 72-hour continuous operation on February 20 successfully produced high-quality 243H film. This marked the completion of the first performance evaluation for the new device, with stable operations throughout. Notably, no waste or transitional materials were generated during the process, effectively eliminating losses typically associated with new product development. Quality indicators such as turbidity have reached the top level among similar high-pressure films in China, proving the project’s success and setting a new benchmark for the industry.
