StarMicronics uses piezo-element mini-pumps to come out

Precision the Andean (StarMicronics) has introduced two new micro-diaphragm pumps that utilize piezoelectric elements, marking a significant advancement in their product line. These new models are scheduled to begin sample supply in the second half of July 2006. The first model, "SD MP3 02," offers a maximum flow rate of 2 mL/min, while the second, "SDM PP 306," delivers up to 7 mL/min. These models are considered successors to the earlier "SDMP301" and "SDMP305" units from 2005.

The new micro-pumps are designed for use in small fuel cells and analytical instruments as liquid delivery systems. A key advantage of these piezoelectric-based miniature pumps is their low power consumption, minimal noise, and reduced electromagnetic interference, as they eliminate the need for traditional motors and moving parts. This makes them ideal for sensitive environments where quiet operation and reliability are essential.

In addition to improved performance, the redesigned internal structure enhances the pump's flow capacity, self-priming ability, and capability to handle mixed liquids with bubbles. The installation method has also been updated—moving from screw fixation to adhesive mounting, which reduces the horizontal width of the mounting base to 10.8 mm. This compact design allows for greater flexibility in system integration.

To further enhance usability, the company has developed a USB controller called "M PU -200," which enables control of the micro-pump directly from a PC running Windows. Alongside application-specific software, the company provides tools like "EXCEL VBA" and "NI LabVIEW" for developing measurement and control applications. These tools allow seamless integration between the micro-pump, PCs, and various measuring and analytical instruments, offering users a powerful platform for custom automation and data acquisition.
