China's top ten auto manufacturers re-ranked sales of Changhe Gold Cup

Beijing, January 13 — (Reporter Zhang Yi) According to the latest data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers on the 13th, the top ten automakers in China saw significant changes in 2005, with these companies collectively holding more than 80% of the domestic market share. FAW, SAIC, and Dongfeng remained at the top three positions, maintaining their dominance in the industry. However, Changhe and Jinbei were replaced by Chery and Geely, marking their first entry into the top ten list. The fourth to tenth positions included Chang'an, Beiqi, Guangzhou Automobile, Hafei, Chery, JAC, and Geely. Among these, the top five manufacturers — FAW, SAIC, Dongfeng, Chang'an, and Beiqi — each sold over 500,000 vehicles in 2005. Their respective sales figures reached 983,100, 917,500, 720,900, 631,100, and 599,300 units. While FAW experienced a slight decline due to weak commercial vehicle sales, Dongfeng and BAIC showed strong growth. Dongfeng's sales increased by nearly 40%, while BAIC grew by over 12%. Chery made its debut in the top ten with 189,000 units sold, reflecting an impressive year-on-year increase of 118%. Meanwhile, Geely, the only private company among the top ten, sold 149,000 vehicles, up 49% compared to the previous year. These results highlight the growing competitiveness of Chinese automakers, especially the rising influence of private enterprises in the industry.
