Chicago FD Turret Wagon History (pt 17)

I just came across some fascinating photos and details about the Chicago Fire Department's turret wagons, shared by Jack Connors. These images showcase the 1976 Mack MB turret wagon that served as both 6-7-5 and 6-7-1. It’s always exciting to see how these iconic vehicles evolved over time. The first image is of the turret wagon lettered for 6-7-1, captured at a Chicago FD muster and flea market. Jack Connort took this shot, and it really captures the essence of those events where firefighters gather to celebrate their history and camaraderie. In another photo taken in May of 1986, the same turret wagon is seen parked in front of Engine 42’s house on Illinois Avenue, now designated as 6-7-1. Jack Connors managed to snap this great picture, offering a glimpse into what daily life looked like for these fire engines back then. There’s also an earlier photo from July of 1977 showing the turret wagon as 6-7-5, sitting across from Engine 42’s station on Illinois Avenue. It’s incredible to see how well-maintained these trucks were even after years of service. Jack Connor was behind this shot too, providing us with a vivid look at the vehicle in its prime. The final image is from the same event in July of 1977 but taken near 56th and Kedzie at the Talman Federal Bank. Again, Jack Connors did an excellent job capturing the scene, highlighting not only the turret wagon but also the vibrant atmosphere surrounding such gatherings. As someone who appreciates firefighting history, these photos truly bring the past to life. If you’re interested in more stories or images like these, check out the previous post HERE. There’s so much rich history tied to these vehicles, and I can’t wait to learn more about them!
