A chemical plant in Gumi, Gyeongsang Province, exploded on September 27 and caused a large amount of hydrofluoric acid to leak. The accident killed five people and injured 18 others.

The South Korean government conducted a survey on the incident site from the 5th to the 7th of this month and found that the leakage of hydrofluoric acid had a serious impact on the surrounding environment. Local governments alone could not overcome this disaster, so the decision was made to delimit the incident area as "Special disaster area."

Once it is determined as a “special disaster area”, the reconstruction cost for 50% to 80% of the disaster-affected area will be borne by the state, and the national tax payment period will be extended by nine months, and the victim’s tax will be reduced by 30%.

According to statistics from Gumi City, the leakage of hydrofluoric acid has led to more than 2,000 people suffering from skin and respiratory discomfort. As of the 7th, the damage caused by this accident has exceeded 17.7 billion won (approximately 100 million yuan).
