“Before the vehicle is dismantled, the assembly line first carries out environmental pre-treatment, that is, the harmless and safe treatment of pollutants or environmentally harmful substances, materials and parts. For example, the equipment will concentrate on various waste liquids. Airbags and Freon are treated and recycled to ensure that dangerous parts and consumables of vehicles are properly collected and disposed of," Huang said.

In addition to social benefits, the new reforms have also improved the economic benefits of dismantling companies. Fei Wenlei, deputy general manager of Xinguang, calculated an account: after a professional dismantling of a scrapped car, it can get about 740 kg of iron, 110 kg of non-ferrous metals, 70 kg of plastic and 36 kg of rubber. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, by 2020, China’s annual car scrap will reach 13 million. Shanghai plans to phase out 300,000 old vehicles in 2015-2017.
