Maanshan Iron and Steel's "Eleventh Five-Year" key technical upgrading project, specifically the expansion and reconstruction of Sintering Plant No. 3’s shaft furnace, has officially begun operations. This marks a significant milestone, as it is not only the largest metallurgical pellet shaft furnace in China's steel industry but also helps reduce Magang's monthly procurement costs for pellets by at least 5 million yuan. With the completion of the No. 3 shaft furnace expansion, the annual production capacity of the pellet plant will reach 2.4 million tons, successfully achieving the medium-term goal of doubling pellet output within six years.
As one of China's leading steel conglomerates, Maanshan Iron and Steel is the largest industrial enterprise in Anhui Province, strategically located along the Yangtze River. Its advantageous geographical position and well-developed transportation network have contributed to its reputation as the “flower of the south of the Yangtze.â€
In recent years, the company has consistently embraced the scientific development concept, prioritizing growth and focusing on structural optimization. It has actively promoted innovation and entrepreneurship, accelerating the implementation of three core strategies: strengthening the steel industry, developing non-steel sectors, and modernizing its enterprise system. Through these efforts, Maanshan Iron and Steel completed the "10th Five-Year Plan" steel industry restructuring with over 15 billion yuan in investment, driving the company toward rapid development. In 2006, the company reported sales revenue of 34.3 billion yuan and a net profit of 2.277 billion yuan, producing 9.44 million tons of iron, 10.91 million tons of steel, and 10.3 million tons of finished steel products, ranking 9th and 7th respectively in national production.
Currently, Maanshan Iron and Steel is advancing its "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" with a total investment of 25 billion yuan, including the construction of a new 5-million-ton high-grade sheet production line, expected to be operational by 2007. Upon completion, the company will achieve a total steel production capacity of 15 million tons, further optimizing its product structure, enhancing market competitiveness, technological innovation, and risk resistance. This marks a solid step forward in building a modern, internationally competitive enterprise group.
