This year's FDIC Exhibits featured four area units on display. New engines for Carol Stream, Fermilab, and Northlake were showcased in separate booths, while the MABAS 10 MVU was also present in the exhibit hall. Each unit offered a unique look into the latest advancements in fire apparatus design and technology.
Carol Stream's new engine, Engine 29, was displayed at the Alexis booth. The unit closely resembled a CFD engine but was built on a Spartan chassis. Its modern design and striking appearance caught the attention of many attendees. Another image showed the rear chevron of the same engine, highlighting its distinctive features. On the officer’s side, the vehicle featured painted roll-up doors, adding to its sleek and functional design.
Fermilab’s Engine 702 was on display in the UST Fire Apparatus booth, formerly known as US Tank. The unit was mounted on a Spartan UST chassis and featured a clean, professional look. A photo captured the rear view, emphasizing the unit’s robust construction and attention to detail. Another shot highlighted the officer’s side, showing the well-designed layout and high-quality craftsmanship.
Northlake’s new engine, Engine 806, was displayed in the Marion booth. Built on a Spartan Metro Star chassis with Evolution Series trim, it represented the latest in fire apparatus innovation. The driver’s side of the unit was also shown, offering a clear view of its advanced features and ergonomic design.
The MABAS Division 10 MVU Mobile Ventilation Unit, housed in Lyons, was another highlight of the show. This unit demonstrated the importance of ventilation in firefighting operations and was well-received by attendees.
In addition to the fire apparatus, the exhibits were spread across two locations: the convention center and the sports arena. While most manufacturers had moved to the convention center, some still used the sports arena, as seen in historical photos from previous years. These images provided a visual comparison of how the event has evolved over time.
Pierce made a notable appearance in their booth, showcasing the latest version of their Dash CF cab and chassis. This model features a grille that matches the Velocity, Impel, and Arrow XT lines. However, the grille is purely aesthetic, as the engine is actually mounted in the back. This year, Pierce displayed a 105' rear-mount PUC quint on the Dash CF chassis without the grille. The design gave the unit a retro feel, resembling early models like the Pierce Arrow and Javelin. The one-piece windshield and cab-tilt cutouts further emphasized this vintage look, making it a standout piece at the show.
