On Saturday, July 23, 2016, the Chicago Fire Department received a call about four individuals stuck in an elevator at a high-rise building on North Halsted Street. The initial attempt to fix the issue by resetting the elevator failed, prompting the need for specialized assistance. A team was dispatched, including Tower Ladder 10, Battalion 3, Squad 1, Squad 2, a Special Operations Chief, and an ambulance.
When the companies arrived, it was discovered that the elevator was stuck between the second and third floors. Firefighters secured the area and established a safety protocol on the fifth floor, setting up equipment and preparing to lower personnel into the shaft. After carefully assessing the situation, a firefighter was lowered down to check on the trapped individuals. To everyone's relief, the group consisted of four girls who had been inside for approximately two hours but were found to be in surprisingly good spirits.
Once the firefighter reached them, the group was safely lowered to the fourth floor using ropes. Paramedics were waiting to evaluate and assist the girls as they emerged from the confined space. It was a challenging situation, but the coordinated efforts of the firefighters ensured a successful outcome.
