The Countryside Fire Protection District has recently acquired a brand-new tanker unit that’s set to join their fleet. While it's still awaiting full deployment, this new Tanker 411 is expected to replace an older 1988 Pierce Dash model, which will then be relocated to Libertyville. The aging unit will serve as either a backup for Countryside or as a resource for Libertyville to utilize.
The new vehicle features an IHC 4400 two-door cab mounted on a compact chassis with a single rear axle. It boasts a powerful 1,000-GPM pump, a water tank capacity of 2,000 gallons, and a 30-gallon foam tank designed for Class-A foam. Its hose bed can hold up to 1,000 feet of hose, including approximately 700 feet of 5-inch hose and about 600 feet of 2-1/2-inch hose. Additionally, there will be a 200-foot 1-3/4-inch crosslay and another segment of 3-inch hose, likely around 200-300 feet long.
One standout feature of this tanker is its rear platform, specifically designed for safe and efficient hose loading. This platform is crafted with a non-skid surface that allows water to drain through it. Beneath the platform lies a backup camera, adding another layer of safety during operations. The rear also includes a ladder leading up to the hose-loading platform, an arrow stick for visibility, and NFPA-compliant chevron striping for enhanced road presence.
Inside, the tanker maintains a modern design with a stainless steel body and advanced operational capabilities. The 30-gallon foam tank and 1,000-GPM pump ensure it can handle large-scale incidents effectively. The remote-controlled chutes on both sides and at the rear further enhance its efficiency by allowing quick access to necessary equipment when needed.
Looking ahead, Countryside anticipates the arrival of a new GMC/Horton ambulance and an IHC/Rosenbauer Timberwolf interface engine in August. These additions promise to bolster their emergency response capabilities even more.
Overall, the new tanker represents a significant upgrade for the district, improving their ability to manage emergencies while maintaining a high level of readiness. It reflects the ongoing commitment of Countryside FPD to provide top-notch services to their community.
