Tamera, Portugal

As one of the largest and oldest eco-villages in Europe, Tamera lies about two hours from Lisbon. This community focuses on peace and strong ethical principles. Their mission is to become a “self-sufficient, sustainable, and replicable communal model,” and they currently house around 200 people. Visitors from all over the globe flock to Tamera annually. Their goal is to coexist harmoniously with the planet by engaging in reforestation and healing the landscape.

The Source, Jamaica

Founded in 2005, The Source was established to serve as a hub for ecological stewardship. This community showcases sustainable living and natural farming practices, emphasizing holistic health and an organic lifestyle. For instance, they recycle rainwater to make it potable and only consume food grown on their farm. With fewer than 20 permanent residents, The Source depends on work exchanges and volunteers to thrive.
