On Sunday, the Lake Forest Fire Department and the Lake Forest Police Department came together to hold a heartfelt remembrance ceremony in honor of the 2,977 lives lost on September 11, 2001—including 343 firefighters from the FDNY, 23 NYPD officers, and 37 members of the Port Authority Police Department. The event took place at Market Square in downtown Lake Forest, a central location that symbolized unity and reflection.
A striking visual moment of the ceremony was the display of aerials from both Lake Forest and Knollwood fire departments, which were carefully crossed over the square, forming a symbolic backdrop for the American flag. Attendees witnessed a solemn bell ringing ceremony, alongside speeches from local officials and community leaders, all paying tribute to the courage and sacrifice of those who served.
Tim Olk, a local photographer, captured several powerful images from the event. Among them, one photo showed the aerials and flag in a dramatic arrangement, while another highlighted an honor guard composed of police and firefighters marching into the ceremony.
