Customs statistics show that China's imports of natural rubber (including latex) amounted to 480,000 tons from January to March 2012, an increase of 2.4% over the same period of the previous year; the amount of imports was approximately US$1.6 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 26.4%; the average import price reached US$3338.4/ t, a decrease of 28.0% from the same period of the previous year (4633.0 USD/ton).
In March, China's natural rubber imports amounted to 190,000 tons, an increase of 26.7% from the previous month; the average import price was 3508.6 USD/ton, an increase of 8.6% from the previous month. Since May 2011, China's natural rubber import prices have continued to decline. In February of this year, the prices rose slightly for the first time in nine months. In March, prices continued to increase, but they were still lower than the lowest monthly import prices in 2011.
