Delphi Talks State III Technical Route Selection

From country two to country three to country four, how is the choice of technology route reasonable? Can Chinese engine companies and foreign parts suppliers implement their own flexible technical equipment allocation under the framework of environmental protection standards?

In an interview with reporters recently, Delphi's sales manager for diesel systems in China said that Delphi wants to design different series of products for different customers and provide customers with multiple options. At the same time, Delphi is willing to cooperate with local customers in technology development. While expanding its own business, it helps customers improve their technical capabilities and achieve mutual win-win results.

Europe uses common rail or single pump technology according to different models

From Euro II (State II) to Euro III (State III) is a qualitative change, which is the change from the mechanical system to the electronic control system. In addition to the electronic control of the fuel supply system, the upgrade of the engine exhaust system can also be realized by a post-processing device that purifies the oil outside the machine. The fuel supply solution is flexible. At present, European and North American automotive industry implements Euro IV and Euro V. The trend is to use common rails on light vehicles. Common rails or single pumps are used on medium-sized vehicles, while single-unit pumps and pump nozzles are used on heavy vehicles. In terms of quantity and output, the electronically controlled single pump and electronically controlled pump nozzle technology is absolutely dominant in mainstream commercial vehicles in Europe and America.

From Zhang’s answer, it is clear that the common track is not the only option for achieving the Third Nations (Euro III). From Euro III to Euro IV, to judge whether SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) and EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) are superior or inferior, we must combine the inheritance of Euro III technology and fully consider the cost factors. Zhang Hao believes that the upgrading of Euro III to Euro IV does not change the nature of the oil supply system. Common rail or single pump and pump nozzle technology are used. The change is the increase of system pressure and the improvement of control accuracy and response speed. It is easier to use EGR and avoid SCR after high pressure, which can reduce the cost of one-time purchase, because the system cost of SCR is much higher than that of EGR system. At the same time, if an SCR system is used, it is necessary to continuously add urea. The cost of urea is also a great burden for users. In addition, some recent test reports from Europe show that the problem of increased fuel consumption caused by EGR has been a breakthrough.

In order to illustrate the continuation of technology, Zhang Hao deliberately stated that during the Euro IV phase, only MAN, a heavy-duty auto manufacturer, used common-rail technology in the European market because of its new design when it was upgraded from Euro II to Euro III. An engine was developed that was designed around the characteristics of a common-rail system, not a one-way common-rail engine, but instead the engine and transmission were used in conjunction with a common-rail system.

Overall reliability demonstrates the advantages of Delphi technology

As an exclusive supplier of heavy-duty trucks with Volvo, Duff, Mark, etc., and a large supplier for companies such as Daimler, John Deere, Detroit Diesel, Renault, Hyundai, Nissan Diesel, etc., Delphi Technologies What are the advantages and features?

The advantage of Delphi is its high pressure in the oil supply system. Zhang Hao introduced that in the Euro IV stage, Delphi's European product supply system will typically use 2,000 bar pressure. More importantly, the leadership of Delphi's electronic control system is reflected in its performance and design ideas. Because the electronic control system is a system that controls multiple mechanical parts and components to work together through the ECU, its reliability is not only reflected in a single component, but is reflected in the reliability capability of the entire system working together.

For instance, Zhang Hao said that since Volvo's engines were upgraded from Volvo II, Euro III, and Euro IV to Euro V in the process of supporting Volvo engines, Delphi provided them with continuation of their products. Basically unchanged, the changes to the engine are small. When it comes to Europe VI, Delphi considers that the solution provided to Volvo is still the electronically controlled pump nozzle system, but after adding some simple devices, the advantages that can be achieved with common rail technology are added to the electronically controlled pump nozzle system. It became a hybrid system. The system has been unveiled at the commercial motor show in Hanover, Germany this September.

[next] Customer-oriented open and flexible technology solutions

Delphi's technology has matured quite well in the US and Europe markets. However, how can Delphi take into consideration the fact that many good technical solutions have come to China to implement them? I am afraid they will also face enormous cost pressures.

In the R&D process, the basis of product design is to first meet industry standards and regulatory requirements, followed by cost advantages. The cost is subdivided into one purchase cost and use cost, and the use cost is subdivided into fuel economy and component maintenance costs. According to this method, if a system such as a monomer pump, a common rail, or a hybrid single pump is listed, it is easy to see which system is suitable for the Chinese market.

According to Delphi's two types of heavy-duty vehicles in the Chinese market, the single-unit pump system can easily achieve particulate control within the aircraft due to high injection pressure. During the Olympic Games, Beijing Public Transport has been supplied in large quantities. Another hybrid electronic control unit pump is a product developed specifically for the Chinese market. It is developed by Delphi and China National Heavy Duty Truck. On this system, Delphi supplied six solenoid valves. All other mechanical parts were produced by China National Heavy Duty Truck. The entire pump was jointly designed by Delphi and China National Heavy Duty Truck.

Zhang Jian emphasized that the development concept of this product is entirely based on the needs of Chinese end-users and OEMs, taking into account the simplicity of the product structure, and the continuity and cost of the product from the country’s second national to the third national level. The potential of the National IV upgrade.

Delphi’s strategy for implementation abroad has always been open-ended. Can it be done in China? Zhang Jian gave a clear answer: what kind of conditions and strategies will be offered to customers in the international arena, as well as to Chinese customers? Provide the same conditions and strategies.

Zhang Hao, for example, said that Delphi's advantage is the solenoid valve. The advantage of Sinotruk Chongqing pump nozzle factory is the in-line pump. In the process of cooperation with China National Heavy Duty Truck, Delphi has combined several million sets of solenoid valves and CNHTC's in-line pumps in Europe to make two products that are very mature in their own right. The combination exerted its own advantages, which not only ensured the optimization of performance, but also ensured the reliability of the strategy.
