"The development of positive and negative 100kV DC converter valve" project passed acceptance

China Instrument Network Instrument R&D ±1100kV UHV DC transmission technology is the world’s most advanced transmission technology with the highest voltage levels, the largest transmission capacity, and the longest transmission distance. The converter valve is the core equipment for realizing the AC/DC conversion of electric energy. ±1100kV UHVDC transmission imposes higher requirements on the insulation coordination, electrical stress and electromagnetic compatibility of the converter valve. In the "12th Five-Year Plan" 863 Program advanced energy technology "±1100kV DC converter valve development" project formed the theoretical system of the key technologies of the UHV converter valve voltage class of ±1100kV and above with independent intellectual property rights and the flow of comprehensive index optimization. The design system and test system have completed the construction of ±1100kV UHV converter valve test capability, and finally completed the research and development of ±1100kV UHV converter valve with independent intellectual property rights, which is a domestic initiative and an international leader. The project was undertaken by the Global Energy Internet Research Institute and jointly completed with the North China Electric Power University and CRRC Zhuzhou Times Electric Co., Ltd.
The project successfully developed the world's first set of ±1100kV/5500A converter valve prototypes, developed an integrated system of converter valve systems with independent intellectual property rights, and solved the system insulation coordination, surface field strength significantly increased and distribution parameters by raising the voltage level. Consistency control problems, proposed converter valve integrated broadband analysis methods and stray capacitance adjustment control, open transient nonlinear parameters, shutdown recovery voltage overshoot suppression technology, formed a ± 1100kV UHV DC converter valve function Sex test, operation and insulation equivalent test capability; firstly completed a full set of ±1100kV UHV DC converter valve test in the world. The completion of the project has effectively promoted the smooth implementation of the world’s first ±1100kV (Changji-Guquan) UHV DC transmission project.
The project results are conducive to advancing China's UHV transmission construction, stimulating the development of related industries, and reducing project cost, and provide important technical support for large-scale long-distance transnational interconnection of power grids, which is of great strategic significance for building a global energy internet.
