Firefighters responded to a three-story condominium building at 715 W. Central in Mount Prospect before 5:30 PM on Monday after reports of a fire in a top-floor unit. The first arriving unit reported heavy smoke and the alarm was upgraded to a working fire Code 4. The fire started in a rear corner unit and quickly spread to the mansard roof, with flames visible from outside. This prompted a Box Alarm, bringing in mutual aid from several nearby departments. The fire was contained within the unit of origin just 20 minutes after the arrival of the first responders. According to the Daily Herald, a resident was rescued from a third-floor balcony during the incident, which left 12 apartment units uninhabitable. One firefighter from Mount Prospect suffered minor injuries and was treated at Alexian Brothers Hospital, as confirmed by Battalion Chief Henry Dawson. ABC News shared a neighbor's photo showing the fire from the rear of the building. Several other images captured the scene, including firefighters checking for additional fires, resting after the operation, and positioning equipment at the front of the structure. Departments that assisted included Elk Grove Village, Elk Grove Township, Palatine, North Maine, Arlington Heights, Palatine Rural, and Prospect Heights. Additional photos from the scene are available for viewing.
