On Thursday afternoon, an Elmhurst fire truck company was returning from a previous alarm when they came across a fire at a bridal shop that appeared to be closed at the time. I arrived on scene after the second alarm units had already been dispatched. A significant firefighting effort was underway, with three elevated master streams being used, along with a unique in-line operation between two quints supplying a multi-purpose water system. The weather conditions were challenging—overcast skies with frequent snow squalls and shifting winds, which led to highly variable smoke conditions throughout the incident. Despite the difficult environment, the fire ultimately caused total destruction of the building, though it appears that no neighboring structures suffered significant damage.
