Why don't we make matching tires?

By 2005, China's total tire production will reach 220 million to 230 million, of which the total production of radial tires will exceed 120 million, ranking itself among the world's largest tire producers. However, there are people who look at Chinese tires from another perspective: In the case of a rapid increase in the production capacity of domestic passenger cars in our country, except for the domestic tires such as the Delta and Delicates, there are basically no OEMs supporting the shuttle bus.

A website has listed 36 types of tires for car enthusiasts. The models range from mini cars, economy cars, and high-end luxury cars, all of which are sold in the market in recent years. However, there are only two models that truly support the use of domestic brand tires. The Tianjin Xiali N3 uses the Linglong brand and the Hafei Lubao uses the Yellow Sea brand.

When improperly appointed tire suppliers to automotive companies, this is of course the tire company's own business, and others cannot interfere. However, if you look at these well-known foreign brands with sharpened heads and strive to become ancillary suppliers to major auto manufacturers, you will know that the quality of supporting suppliers must not be quantified solely by price factors. That is still a kind of brand reputation and Product recognition. In September last year, Kumho Tire officially signed a contract with Changchun City Government and FAW Group for the construction project of Kumho Tire Factory. After the project is completed, it will become the largest production base for professional radial passenger tires in China. The Kumho Tianjin plant, with a total investment of US$310 million, was started construction in the West Area of TEDA in April last year. The final output of the project will reach 10.4 million pieces/year. This project is geographically adjacent to Tianjin FAW. Similarly, in June last year, Bridgestone laid the foundation for the fourth production plant in China in Huizhou, Guangdong. This $300 million plant is apparently selected to follow the Honda, Nissan, and Toyota's three major vehicle manufacturers to settle in the Pearl River Delta.

Everyone knows that it's a good idea to rely on trees to enjoy the cool. By the end of last year, China's auto production reached more than 6 million vehicles and produced 8.68 million vehicles. This provided us with a vast market for tires, but our tire production plants were few. Take the initiative to move closer to the car production plant and give the opportunity to foreign brands.

It should be said that domestic brand tires do not want to be an accessory supplier but not a person. The Kumho Tire Technology R&D Center was built in Tianjin last December. This is one of Kumho’s global R&D centers; Bridgestone recently established a tire research and development center in Wuxi, Jiangsu, which is the fourth largest in the world for Bridgestone. Tire R&D center. Huge investment in new product development has brought new products and technologies that are continuously updated, laying a solid foundation for the next phase of competition. In this respect, our R&D has lagged behind, technology has lagged behind, and our products have fallen behind.

Large but not strong, is the helplessness of many products in China's chemical industry. Analyzing the reasons why many industries are large and not strong, and lack of technological innovation capability are the main reasons that restrict us from becoming stronger, and the performance of tire companies is rather typical.
