This is from Mike Lopina:
While driving north on I-294, I spotted a fire alarm and heard traffic reports indicating a fire on the roof of a building at 10511 W United Parkway. The structure is a first-style non-combustible building measuring 350 feet by 150 feet. From the tollway, it looked like it might escalate into an extra-alarm situation, but by the time I arrived (about 10 minutes later), the fire was already under control.
The crews did an outstanding job. The fire was contained to the rooftop HVAC unit with some extension to the roof deck. Several departments responded, including Schiller Park Engine 5, Tower Ladder 5, Ambulance 5, and Battalion 5. Franklin Park Truck 2, Leyden Quench 133, Norwood Park Engine 101, and Franklin Park Battalion 490 also arrived on scene.
It was impressive how quickly they managed the situation, especially given the heat. A great effort by all the firefighters involved. Definitely a team effort that kept the fire from spreading further.
