The Chicago Tribune reports that a tragic house fire in Tinley Park today resulted in the death of an elderly woman. According to officials, the incident occurred on Friday morning at a condo complex located on the 6200 block of Pine Trail Lane.
Assistant Fire Chief Thomas Slepski stated that the fire originated in the woman’s second-floor bedroom. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, as confirmed by a statement from the Tinley Park Fire Department. At this time, the woman's name has not been released, but officials have described her as "elderly." A second woman living in the adjacent unit was safely evacuated and suffered no injuries.
A neighbor who lived downstairs reported that he called 911 after a landscaper knocked on the door, noticing smoke coming from the upper window. Luis Calderon, a landscaper with Nogas Landscaping, said he saw smoke while passing by and alerted another homeowner, who then rang the doorbell. However, the woman upstairs did not answer.
Later in the afternoon, village officials confirmed that the woman had died at the scene.
