A serious fire broke out early Tuesday morning in a house undergoing renovations on the 5200 block of Fargo Avenue, between Niles Center Road and the Edens Expressway in Skokie. The incident was first noticed just before 6 a.m. by a passing police officer, who immediately reported the flames. Firefighters arrived quickly, but the fire had already spread rapidly through the structure.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and authorities have not yet determined what sparked the blaze. No injuries have been reported so far, though the property is believed to be heavily damaged or completely destroyed.
Local residents described the scene as alarming, with thick smoke visible for miles. Firefighters worked throughout the morning to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to nearby homes.
