UPDATE: The fire at 8032 South Hermitage, reported as a 2-11 alarm, has now turned fatal. A 45-year-old adult female was pulled from the burning home shortly after the Chicago Fire Department (CFD) arrived. However, she had already suffered severe burns and smoke inhalation. She was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead. No working smoke alarms were found at the scene.
The fire was reported at 9:56 a.m. CFD units arrived on the scene within four minutes. Upon arrival, firefighters were told by neighbors that someone was still inside the house. Crews immediately went to the location and discovered a woman in critical condition, unresponsive and trapped in the rear bedroom.
